Malvan - Tarkarli ... Day 3

We got up early in the morning. Actually we hardly slept. Got ready by 7:00 and left Patkar’s Heritage home at 7:15. We thanked our hosts for the wonderful service and pure home atmosphere. First priority was to fill up petrol in Swift. Decided to fill the petrol at the only petrol pump in malvan. It’s a Bharat petroleum bunk on the main road near ST bus stand. We had planned to visit Dhamapur’s Bhagvati devi temple which is around 30 kms from Malvan. Bhagwati devi is also our kuldaivat so this place was important. The road towards Dhamapur was excellent and I enjoyed every bit of it. Reached the temple at around 8:15am. This temple is built around 700 years ago. It has wooden pillars with beautiful carvings. All the old temples in Malvan are similar in construction. The temple is right next to a beautiful lake. The scenery was just excellent. It was really pleasant to see what nature has to offer and in cities we do miss these things. After talking to pujari and other people, left temple at around 9:00 am. Took the same route back to Pune.

Return journey was uneventful though tiring. The thought that the sojourn is coming to an end made it more tiring. Reached Gaganbawda at 11:45 (trip meter: 594), Kolhapur 1:30 (trip meter: 656). We had lunch at Gokul hotel next to railway station. This is the most famous veg hotel in Kolhapur. Food was excellent. Reached Satara at 4:15 (trip meter: 774). At khed there was heavy traffic jam at the toll booth which took us 1 hr to cross. Reached home at 6:55 (trip meter: 882).
This sojourn has been very special for everyone in family since Malvan is our origin and visited this beautiful place for the first time. My dream of visiting Malvan finally came to reality. Though we could not visit many interesting places, we are sure to come back and explore even more.

  1. Thanks for sharing your trip experience. Malvan is a place where you can spend your vacations so peacefully. One could say that the island’s natural advantages, its rocky outcrop and its reef-blocked harbour were ideal for fortification. Check out best hotels in Malvan also.
